Why choose a CMC regulated mediator?

A CMC-regulated mediator has:

•  Undertaken appropriate mediation training, to industry-accepted standards

•  Maintained their professional development, through appropriate ongoing training and learning

•  Agreed to follow a professional Code of Conduct

•  Access to an established complaints process, should you need to raise a concern

•  Appropriate professional indemnity insurance

Choosing a mediator registered with the CMC gives you reassurance that they meet these professional standards and are committed to maintaining them.

The CMC does not register mediators working in family mediation. To find a family mediator, contact the Family Mediation Council.

Understanding our membership categories

Mediators listed in the directory hold one of three membership categories with the CMC:

•  Associate: has completed CMC-accredited or assessed-as-equivalent mediation training and holds the required professional indemnity insurance.

•  Registered Mediator: has demonstrated an established level of mediation experience beyond initial training.

•  Fellow: has held CMC membership for 10 years or more.

All three categories meet the same core standards of training, insurance and conduct. The categories reflect a mediator’s length of experience and/or time in membership.

•  Search: Search by name, organisation or membership category
•  Type of Mediation: Choose from civil/commercial, workplace, community, SEND, or peer mediation training in schools
•  Location: Filter by in-person location or online availability
•  Specialist Areas: Filter by a mediator’s specific areas of expertise

The CMC Fixed Fee Scheme

Some mediators listed in the directory participate in the CMC Fixed Fee Scheme, offering mediation at a set, transparent cost.

You can filter for these mediators under Type of Mediation. Once you have identified a mediator, you can contact them directly to discuss how they may be able to help.
