A New Chapter for the CMC Academic Forum
A New Chapter for the CMC Academic Forum
As her term as Chair of the CMC Academic Forum comes to a close, we want to take a moment to thank Professor Jane Bryan, who has chaired the group since its very first meeting.
Since chairing her first meeting, Jane has brought energy, insight and a genuine passion for mediation within Higher Education to the Forum. Under her leadership, the group has grown from a handful of members into a thriving community of academics, practitioners and researchers from institutions across the UK and beyond.
Along the way, the group has tackled topics from mediation in the curriculum, employability, clinical legal education and the growing importance of research in the field, supporting the launch of initiatives including the ADR Researchers Network and hosting a student competition to raise awareness of mediation among the next generation.
CEO, Victoria Harris, says “Jane’s own work at the University of Warwick has brought real depth to the Forum’s discussions, and her ability to bring together brilliant speakers, from academics and practitioners to international voices, has made every meeting contribute to the advancement of mediation in HE. It has been a pleasure to work with Jane at other meetings and events too, to help raise the profile of mediation with the next generation. I know that our wider collaboration will continue beyond the Forum, and I look forward to building on the work we have already begun together.”
We are enormously grateful to Jane for everything she has given to the Academic Forum, and to the wider CMC community, over the years.
We are also delighted to welcome Catherine Hobby, senior lecturer and co-director of the Mediation Hub at the University of East London, as the new Chair of the Academic Forum, and look forward to the next chapter under her leadership.
The next Academic Forum meeting will take place in January 2027. To register your interest please e mail projects@civilmediation.org.
