New Resources Explain SEND Mediation for Young People
The CMC and the College of Mediators have launched new resources to help young people understand SEND mediation. Find out what the resources include and how they can support young people through the process.
The CMC and the College of Mediators have launched new resources for young people taking part in SEND mediation.
Young people are at the centre of SEND disagreements, and these resources are designed specifically for them. They explain what SEND mediation is, how it works and what to expect, in a format that is clear and accessible.
The resources include two short videos: one explaining some of the words and phrases often used in SEND, and a guide to the mediation process itself, covering topics such as the role of the mediator, how to prepare and what happens if mediation does not resolve the disagreement. They are accompanied by a downloadable Easy Read guide using simple language and pictures.
The videos were developed with help from young people.
SEND mediators, and anyone supporting families through the process, may find the resources useful to share with young people ahead of a mediation.
