Peer Mediators Conference Celebrates Peace Making

Peer mediators from across the North West gathered for a special conference, strengthening their skills and commitment as peace makers. Supported by Quakers in Britain, the day showcased how young people are helping to resolve conflict and build kinder communities.

Peer Mediators from across the North West gathered on Friday 11th July for a day packed full of activities all aimed at cementing their commitment to being peace makers. This first ever Peer Mediators conference in the region was supported by staff from Quakers in Britain and volunteers from Quaker Meetings across the area.

At the conference, children from across five schools used their well honed skills of listening, empathy and creative thinking to exchange ideas and experiences. They went on to imagine together about how their skills might be used to improve their communities and the world at large.

Children were joined by local councillor and peace activist Erinma Bell who commended the children on their work in resolving conflict peacefully.

Ben Harper, Peer Mediation National Co-ordinator for Quakers in Britain said: “Against the back drop of so much local, national and international conflict, it was so life affirming to be with children who show the skills and commitment to a more just and peaceful world”

The day ended with a video address from CMC’s Deputy Chief Executive Victoria Harris, and a presentation of certificates to those children who have recently completed their Peer Mediation Workbooks.
