Behind the Scenes with Unite Mediation Suite: How Technology is Shaping Mediation

AN INTERVIEW WITH ANTHONY DAVIS AND TREVOR FIFIELD

Trevor and Anthony are the creators of Unite Mediation Suite, the Ambassador Sponsor of the CMC Conference 2025. They bring a unique blend of legal insight and technical expertise to the mediation space. In this conversation, they share their thoughts on how technology can support mediators, what they have learned along the way, and how their backgrounds have shaped their approach.

When asked about the biggest challenges mediators face, the pair did not hesitate.

“Working directly with mediators to build Unite from the ground up has given us unprecedented insight into mediators’ daily realities,” they explained. “Across every practice area, we discovered a universal struggle: mediators are drowning in administrative tasks while juggling fragmented communication channels and expensive, disconnected systems. Unite eliminates this chaos by delivering a unified platform that transforms the entire mediation lifecycle—from initial client contact through case resolution—while providing actionable analytics that help practices thrive, not just survive.”

“Mediators are drowning in administrative tasks while juggling fragmented communication channels and expensive, disconnected systems.”

The conversation then turned to the values that sit at the core of mediation: communication, trust, and collaboration. How do you design a tool that supports, rather than disrupts, those values?

“We recognised that technology should amplify human connection, not replace it,” they said. “Unite seamlessly integrates with existing email and calendar systems, creating a centralised communication hub that eliminates the costly platform-hopping that fragments client relationships. For those irreplaceable face-to-face moments—like mediation sessions—our AI-powered tools work behind the scenes, analysing collaboration patterns and delivering insights that enhance case management without interfering with the human elements that make mediation successful.”

Throughout their journey, Trevor and Anthony have been deeply influenced by the people they work alongside.

“The mediation community has been nothing short of extraordinary,” they reflected. “We have had the privilege of collaborating with professionals who combine deep expertise with genuine compassion for their work. Their dedication to helping others resolve conflicts peacefully has inspired our own commitment to creating technology that honours their mission. This mutual passion has created a partnership where we are not just building software—we are supporting a profession that changes lives.”

“We are not just building software — we are supporting a profession that changes lives.”

Their story began with a much narrower focus before expanding into something bigger.

“Unite emerged from real-world need,” they explained. “We initially focused on providing legal documentation services for couples pursuing amicable divorce. As family mediators began recommending our services, we gained insider access to their workflows and pain points. We saw talented professionals hampered by outdated systems and realised our technology background could solve these challenges. The development journey has been accelerated by this authentic understanding of mediator needs, and the industry’s enthusiastic response has validated our vision of supporting mediation practices across all disciplines.”

The two come from very different professional backgrounds, and they credit this contrast as a source of strength.

“Our diverse backgrounds create a powerful dynamic of creative tension,” they said. “We continuously challenge each other’s assumptions and push our entire team to think beyond conventional solutions. While our professional paths diverged, our core values—exceptional customer service and unwavering client care—remain perfectly aligned. This combination of different perspectives grounded in shared principles has become our secret weapon for innovation.”

Reflecting on what they have learned from building something together, they summed it up simply: “Question everything, then question it again. True value emerges when you refuse to accept ‘good enough’ and relentlessly pursue what clients actually need, not what you think they want. Building Unite has demanded everything from us—countless late nights, difficult decisions, and moments of doubt—but every challenge has been worth it because we are creating something that genuinely transforms how mediators work and serve their clients.”
