Peer Mediation Working Group – Making Strides for Peer Mediation

The CMC Peer Mediation Working Group continues to build momentum, with a focus on practical improvements and collaboration across the sector. From accessible training to promoting peer mediation nationally, there is plenty taking shape for the year ahead.

  REPORT BY ANNA ROBINSON

The CMC Peer Mediation Working Group met online to discuss a wide range of activities to support the sector in the year ahead.

Highlights included, a skill share looking at how trainers could improve their peer mediation training, ensuring that it’s accessible to all learners.  A big thank you to Ben Harper for delivering this session and for sharing so many practical techniques to support accessibility for children with special educational needs.

A review of the existing Peer Mediation Training Guidelines is planned to incorporate this learning and other ideas generated from last year’s in person meeting.

Details of promotional activity for the CMC report, ‘Peer Mediation in Schools: Peer mediation for happier healthier futures were shared.  This included promotion by our CEO Victoria Harris to a global audience at a recent MBBE event as well as conversations closer to home on the topic of embedding conflict resolution training within initial teacher training. More activity is planned to support the seven recommendations from the report.

The Group also gave careful consideration to logistics and safeguarding issues for children who may be invited to the National Mediation Awards later this year, where their school has been nominated for the Peer Mediation Provider Award.

Big thanks to all participants and partners for driving this forward. Our next meeting is on Thursday 7 May, 10:00–12:00 (virtual).
