Peer Mediation Working Group – Setting a Course for the Year Ahead
The CMC’s Peer Mediation Working Group has started a new term with renewed focus and momentum. Members reflected on insights from their in-person session earlier this year and began shaping the next phase of their efforts to strengthen peer mediation practice across England and Wales.
REPORT BY VICTORIA HARRIS
The Peer Mediation Working Group began a new term on the 25th of September. Members gathered to review the insights gathered at their in person day in May when they looked at methods to best engage school leaders, pupils and the wider community.
The meeting also marked the beginning of a review of the current training guidelines and how these might be updated to reflect modern best practice. Having such experienced voices in the room, aware of trends and challenges in the sector, led to a rich discussion with a decision for a small working group to look at the guidelines in more depth.
The group were updated on the progress of the CMC Peer Mediation National Evaluation Report which is in its final stages of production and is on track to be launched at the CMC Conference in November. Channel mapping for promotion and distribution will also be supported by the group.
The National Mediation Awards 2026 were also given a mention and plans to make the event more child inclusive for the Peer Mediation Provider Award, were shared with the group.
If you are interested in the research to evaluate peer mediation in schools please join us at our annual conference where the report will be launched. There are discounted prices for those who work in the peer mediation, SEND, academic and community mediation sectors.
